In our sin we trust our own abilities
As though we can fight against evil
Standing unarmed in this age
We put the Lion in a cage
In our self-exalting minds we think
I will not be greedy, I will tell no lie
I can do no harm, how great I will be
What power we invest in I, when there is no power in me
And the Lion sits in His cage, gentle as a Lamb
Not because He cannot come out
But because we fail to call on His name
Even as we are burned in the flame
Do not be confused, when I say there is no power in I
I mean there is also no power in you
Evil gives confidence, fills with pride
Evil will afford you to buy into the lies
And still we cage the Lion, deaf to His mighty roar
He alone can save us, only by His strength
Yet our eyes blind with love of man
Do not see the one who holds us in His hands
If we fail to open the cage, to come fearfully to His throne
We will succomb to evil, belonging to our sins
If we do not seek the One who is both Lion and Lamb
Evil will devour us in the place we try to stand

Prayer for Sense
Lord, make me blind
That I may see only You
Only the light of Your will
Take from me the ability to hear
So I may be deaf to all things
Except Your gentle commands
I pray that I may never touch again
But be touched by You always
Use my hand for Your glory
May my tongue and lips not taste
So that Your word is my bread
And sweeter than honey it will be
The aromas of this world be gone
I only wish to smell the fragrance of You
Let this be my perfume
And Lord, bring me down upon my knees
That I will always be beneath Your protection
Calling on Your name in prayer
Amen.

Why...
Why did you follow
When I was trying so hard to lose you
Why did you persist
When I did everything to make you stop
Why did you love
When I was filled with hate
Why did you try
When I had already given up
Why did you choose me
When I chose them
Why did you call me perfect
When I called myself anything but
Why did you stay true
When I was living a lie
God, why did I take so long to see
When you were showing me the whole time?

The Hands of Mere Men

The hands of men are flawed and failing
Leading to hurt and anguish
What is held by them is often dropped
Broken, stained or ruined
Fringerprints that tarnish
They are far too often rough
Constantly intrusted with the treasures of the world
Much destruction is left
The joints falter, riddled with pain
Things are lost, never to be returned
The hands of mere men
Rape, murder and steal
The hands of God are mighty
In order to hold the world they must be
Each thing held is blessed
Broken, stained and ruined
Now renewed, forgiven
Fingerprints of grace and glory, unfaltering
Always kind, always true
Sturdy and stable
The hands of God were once pierced
By the hands of mere men
Only in the hands of God
Will the hands of men be cleaned

To my son
I have taken up writing poetry again, thanks to some inspiration from friends! Poetry has always been my release and I'm ready to get back into it. Here is a poem I wrote about where my life is now, thanks to God's will! Enjoy!
Tired and Worn
A door to a room you can’t look in
Only I hold the key
Roads I would take, races I would win
Put away the dreams I used to see
I locked that door when you were born
Plans I made were gone
Today I felt so tired and worn
My patience and smile withdrawn
So I turned the key with a grin
Admire dreams never to be
At the moment when my nerves were thin
I just wanted to feel free
Did not expect things so tired and worn
Thought a light would dawn
Shocked to find my dreams were old and torn
Not vivid pictures my mind had drawn
Discovered I was in the same skin
Only now you are the dream for me
New dreams of the life you and I begin
Desires for the past flee
